Well, the calendar does say spring is here!  We are still waiting in Adak!  We had a pretty tough winter with lots of snow, wind and cold weather.  We had our first bad storm after Thanksgiving, another in February, where we lost several electric lines, blown fuses, but didn't go too long without power.  Thanks to our great TDX crew, the lights stayed on!  The caribou hunting is still going strong, There are hunting parties coming regularly, and using the 4x4 pickups and snowshoes, and coming ho...

Well, here it is a brand new year and it's been a while since I blogged, but hope everyone is still with me, and takes a look at our new pictures on the photos page!  We had a nice Christmas in Oregon, and now back at our normal life in Adak.  It was nice to have the duck hunters as guests this winter, looking forward to more visits next year.  More to come when things get just a bit more back to normal.  Happy Days!...

Happy Holiday to everyone during this Christmas season!  Things slow down quite a bit in Adak during December, or so I thought!  We will be travelling in December, and will be off island, but I know things will still be hopping.  The caribou are still being taken, they are very close to town, the snow has brought them close, and they are being taken easily by locals for our subsistance purposes!  Even the schoolteacher's wife got her first caribou yesterday!  Congrats!  She said it was about 150...

November weather has hit Adak, in a beautiful way.  There has been just a couple of windy days, and frosty mornings, no snow.  The caribou are DEFINITELY coming closer to town, there are so many sitings, it's hard to write them all down!  But the latest one today came from Jack who said he saw over 600 in several different herds, and a few hunters out there, getting their limits.  This is a very exciting time for hunting both caribou and ducks.  There has been several sitings of the transient bi...

The caribou are here!  My o My!  Joe went halibut fishing last weekend, and came home with 2 caribou!  How did that happen?  he and Tony were near Scabbard bay, saw 3 and landed the boat, but before Tony could get the boat secured on the beach, Joe had taken 2 shots and killed them both!  So we were up until midnight a few days later cleaning and packaging!  There are several hunting parties here this week, John Bush and co got 20, so he told me at the airport today!  They were here for 10 days....
